The Hotel "Afroessa" Afroessa hotel praises romance. Our guests experience the exceptional view from our "olcanavas" rooms set atop of Santorini's hillside. The original site of the winery, first built in 1700 was renovated in 1998 on its existing foundation. Our ten studios, each with its own unique archway are built on five levels, with their own magical view of Caldera. Each studio is individually decorated giving its own district character, yet maintaining the traditional style. The beds are built into the foundations and the furnishing and decorations chosen so as to enhance the warm and romantic feelings created by the surroundings.

The name "Afroessa"
The Kameni islands are the cone - still active - of the volcano. A volcanic change took place in the year 726 probably on 'Palaia Kameni', and after this violent explosive no further sub-aerial volcanic activity was recorded for more than 800 years. The volcano struck again in 1570 and this activity continued for three years, creating a small dome-shaped island, which called 'Mikri Kameni'.
The volcanic activity started again in 1707 and continued for more than four years and by September 1711 had created alongside Mikri Kameni a new island which became known as 'Nea Kameni'.
Between 1866 and 1870 there were further violent eruption, when the island of Afroessa, southwest of Nea Kameni, was formed by masses of boiling lava.

blends with the landscape of Santorini. The bedroom with the built
bed is separated from the sitting area creating the perfect place
for relaxation. The sitting area has a built sofa bed and a dining

view to the Caldera.

Afroessa take guests back to past times, where romance had a leading
role. The cast-iron bed of the one studio and the built of the
other, in combination to the wooden traditional furniture create a
warm and hospitable surrounding, while the terrace with the open
