Oia in Santorini is one of the most picturesque and well-known villages of the island. It is located at the north-west tip of Santorini, 11 km north of the island’s capital.

The most luxurious hotels with fantastic infinity pools are located on the west side of Oia, offering a breathtaking view of the volcano and the caldera cliffs.

The village of Oia is extremely famous for the stunning view and the sunset whereas it attracts many tourists. Pyrgos Village It is located 5 km southeast of capital of Fira and is the highest built village in Santorini. The alleys in Pyrgos are impressive due to the Cycladic graphic architecture and the hidden churches.

The most famous church of Santorini is also found just 4 km from Pyrgos, the Monastery of Prophet Elias which is built at the highest spot of the mountain. It hosts a small collection of ethnographic material and old icons and attracts the locals especially during the Easter period.

The Venetian castle is one of the main attraction of Pyrgos village and dates back to the 13th century. The fortified settlement is amphitheatrically built on the hill and offers superb views of both sides of the island.

Perissa and Perivilos Beach is one of the most famous Santorini beaches. Located on the southeastern coast of Santorini 13 km from Fira, it is the longest beach of the island and the natural continuation of Perivolos.

Akrotiri is located at the southwest part of Santorini, 12 km from Akrotiri, the capital of the island. This small village is well known for the archaeological site that was discovered just 1 km to the south, in 1967.

Akrotiri was originally a Minoan settlement and today is one of the major tourist attractions and the most important archeological site of Santorini. The worldwide known archaeological city, was destroyed by the volcano eruption, between 1627 and 1600 B.C.

Akrotiri has plenty of churches to visit, traditional windmills and one of the most popular beaches which is the red beach located on the southwest coast. Most of the hotels in Akrotiri are located inside the village and close to the spectacular cliffs, north of the village.

The view from there is amazing because you can see all the west side of Santorini up to Oia as well as the volcano.

In Medieval times, Akrotiri was one of the 5 fortified settlements on the island. Akrotiri is a village of great interest on the south west coast of Santorini. Megalochori is a traditional village 6 km south of Fira, the capital of Santorini, built on the west part of the island.
